Title: Can You Sell Honey From Removals?
Post by: beek1951 on July 02, 2012, 08:13:02 pm
Someone recently told me that you can't sell honey from removals,
because it did not com from removable frames. I have been selling it
to individuals as "Raw Organic Honey", but may have to start mixing it
into my settling tank and re-labelling my regular honey. What say ye?

Tell people it is from removals, then you should never have a problem.

The problem you may have is calling it Organic.

Just use the term raw honey. I am selling a good bit from removals I have done recently to friends and family. Harvested over 20 gals honey from cutouts so far and have two more hives from an old abandoned house I have gotten two hives and a swarm from so far.

That's always some of the best honey in my opinion! I call it "wild" honey.

Call it "Squatters' Honey".....you could use the picture of the cat from the latest cover of Bee Culture for the logo.  :-D

I agree, it is always some of the best. I also sell it as wild honey.

Great minds think alike!  :)

I have officers who only want the wild honey because of the diverse flavors. from one side of town to the other. just be shur that the hive was not sprayed in the last year. and pull only from the softer comb and not the rock hard comb. . wild honey is some of the most dense honey and they love it for coffee and tea.

I leave mine out in the field and let the bees rob it back but if you think about it they store what they dont use so mine have just robed out the wild comb to put it in framed comb. So that I later extract it but because I dont know what people do to the wild hives I dont use it straight. I dont get a lot of new hives to remove though mine are normally 5 to 20 years old and the amount of nasty that is inside of walls makes me not want to use it. After my other bees have remove the honey from the nasty I dont mind using it.
