Wasp Trap

what is used as bait?  Won't a bee be attracted to anything sweet just as a wasp would be?

I made a trap out of a old jar put 2 spoons full of  strawberry preserves in the bottom and closed it up.  punched two holes in it just big enough to let a wasp in but not the bee.  Now just set it up in the beeyard and watch. Ended up dumping a lot of wasps out of it.

wasps are also atracted to meat.

red wine+two table spoons of sugar, but don't use just wine, it's a waste, mix it with water and drink the rest :-D

I don't think bees are overly attracted to fruity juices, beer. They are in search of flower nectar. I  don't think that they would take the time to try and figure out how to get into a wasp trap.  I haven't seen any bees in the wasp traps and they are hung all over the apiary.

I use beer, diluted, it is reasonably cheap.  But I think that I will use some other products, like some posts have indicated.  Have the wonderful and beautiful day, good health.  Cindi

I put a piece of ham in mine, honeybees aren't attracted to meat. That with a banana peel, some apple vinegar and sugar water works like a charm. Put it in a milk jug with a few small holes. Hornets, wax moths and yellowjackets fill them up quickly.

SignQueen.  Now that actually sounds like the simplest of anything I have heard of or seen.  And yes, I bet it would work like a hot dam.  I splurged today and bought some openings that are inserted onto the side of a pop bottle, it even has a little hangy down thing to hang meat on.  We had ham on Monday, maybe I'll try a little.  Best of this day, good health.  Cindi

    I use a wax moth trap and it seems to get wasps and hornets also.  Along with beetles, big blue tail flies and common flies.   Oh yeah wax moths too.  The sugar water and banana peel attracts the bees but the red cider vinegar attracts the others and keeps the bees away.  I was replacing the bottles when I thought it looked nasty, but was told and found out that the more corpses the better attractant.  So now I wait until the bugs are walking instead of drowning.
