Interesting beehavior
« on: May 30, 2009, 12:43:19 pm »
Newbee question again.
My bees usually have not been active until later in the morning, but today they seemed to be "up" earlier. And they also seemed to be working the grass in the lawn. Now, this isn't a manicured lawn, but rather just green stuff that I mow. I never fertilize it, and don't treat it in any way. It's been a couple weeks since I mowed it, because I wanted the girls to work over the dandelions. The dandelions are done, and I haven't seen any clover yet. But they were working the "grass". Some of it looked like it is going to seed. The rest is just grass blades and mixed in lawn weeds. There is still dew on it, so maybe they were going for an easy source of water? I watched them for a while, but didn't really see them taking anything. They were just sort of flying around in and out of it. Any ideas on what they might have been doing in the grass?

Yep - collecting water is a good guess.
