Title: SCORE!!
Post by: poka-bee on June 09, 2008, 08:44:46 pm
As most know, I'm frantically feeding my bees as they starved.  Don't think I lost the hives but many many dead.  I was out of sugar so stopped @ Grocery outlet on a whim.  Found out a friend of mine worked there &  asked her if there were any bags bigger than 5lbs explaining my bee problem.  The boss was right there, heard me & said they had some in the back that someone had sliced while opening the boxes.  I got 55lbs for 10.87!!!! I would have gotten all they have but he has a deal going on w/a friend that makes wine...Thats cheaper than Costco,  Winco or Wallmart!  Woo Hoo! :-D  Jody

I was hoping to feed the bees again tomorrow but right now I'm having a cloudburst, 46 F, and winds 30+ so what's the wind chill?  The weather station goes bonkers when the wind speed exceeds 30+ so I don't know the exact speed is.  Cheap unit as weather stations goes, but it works most of the time it just gets notional during storms, and the lights just flickered so The bees may starve yet.  Snow down to 2500 ft in Junuary.  Junuary, We've decided to rename the month more in keeping with winter.

If there's a break in the weather I'll feed tomorrow even if it means a few stings.

Can't train my racing pigeons in this weather either.  Those in the club racing old birds have had high bird losses due to inclimate weather.

Maybe we'll get back to more normal weather after December 2012 that's when the Mayan Calendar ends.

Brian, I feel so bad for the bees.  I just put baggies on, no matter what it's doing.  I didn't check em last week like usual cause it was so cold & wet, I might have saved more if I had  .  Yep it's really windy, rainy & 6-12 in snow expected @ 2500ft. Usually isn't very windy in the summer.. :-x  I already cleaned out the woodstove/basket or would build a fire!  Jody

A local grocery here over bought generic brand sugar and is selling it at .79 per four pounds.  I buy forty pounds every two days and stack it in the pantry.

Piggly wiggly is holding on in some of the low income neighborhoods. but, they like most everybody else are getting punished by Walmart

I doubt it's just Walmart.  The grocery industry is cut-throat as it is.  Walmart just doesn't help matters.  (I work for a grocery chain).

lol - thread derailment! (sorry Jody!) ~ I've visited my folk's place quite a few times but never resided there myself actually.  It's a lovely spot and also a good harbor for sailing out of around the gulf.  8-)

I'll def need some of that gumbo Jody!! :-D

Mudbugs are crawdads as well as crawfish and crayfish as well.

Po boys are also called poor boys by some, there are cold ones (ie: ham and swiss) as well as hot ones (meatball and provolone cheese or roast beef), most all are served on toasted french bread, I like mine the crunchier the better (the bread).

Some like them dressed, some like 'em plain, I like 'em sloppy.

I think some of the yankee type folks call 'em submarine sandwhiches, I had one in Jersey once, it was ok.

Kinda but not really.  Submarines, AKA subs, AKA hoagies are a lot more orderly than what I have known Po' boys to be.  I have seen some fairly crazy po' boys with anything and everything dumped on them.

If you haven't had a softshell crab po-boy, you don't know what you're missing!!

Oyster dressed with hot sauce is hard to beat as well.

From an Old Vaudeville skit/song: "You Can't Fool and Old Horse Fly."  Now you won't find feathers on a bullfrogs legs, and a hen won't lay hard boiled eggs, Horseradish makes an Oyster cry, Oh, You can't fool an onld horse fly.  I plan to perform the whole thing during my Labor Day bash with Dane and Sean picken and a grinnen.
