Where can i find a good carni queen

Hello

   I am in search for a good carniolan queen i have two and thier brood is a dakr grey with yelloew bands and they are hybrids they are gentle and very nice to look at but i don't want to pay alot of money for queens that are A I but bred natural with thier own kind of drones now i know all bees are crossed and it is going to be hard but if anyone knows where i can get a good carni queen that is close to pure please let me know and if they have a website can you please give me that also i love dark bees that are gentle and good honey producers.

Why is it that every time I see the term Carni Queen I think of Ferris Wheels, Roller Coasters, and the Bearded Lady?

But to answer your question, try searching out the various queen suppliers that advertise in ABJ of Bee Culture.  A little Googling can be very rewarding.  As long as it is not Ogling.

A local commercial beekeeper buys his from Kona Queens in Hawaii but there may be a minimum order size. He swears by their production and gentelness.

If some one feel that carniolan is good only way is to try how good.

There are so many stocks inside races and they will be mixed soon in free mating.

   I know that they all will end up mixed if they are not requeened every couple of years. My carniolans are crossed with cordovans and they are a good bee i have no problem with them i just wanted to try to get as close to the pure breed as i can my bees have the traits of both and are very gentle.

Beneficial

    * considered to be gentle and non-aggressive
    * can be kept in populated areas.
    * sense of orientation considered better than the Italian honeybee race
    * less drifting of bees from one hive to a neighboring hive
    * when compared to the Italian race, they are not as prone to rob honey
    * able to overwinter in smaller numbers of winter bees
    * able to quickly adapt to changes in the environment
    * better for areas with long winters
    * rhythm of brood production very steep
    * small use of propolis
    * resistant to brood diseases
    * for areas with strong spring nectar flow

Not Beneficial

    * more prone to swarming
    * low ability to produce wax and build comb (not uniformly accepted as fact)
    * low ability to thrive in hot summer weather

The above may explain Finky's swarming problems with the Carnis. :)

I have been looking around for a race of bees to start in the spring.  I looked into Carniolans.  I came across an article posted on this list about the New World Carniolans.  http://beemaster.com/beebbs/viewtopic.php?t=1687&highlight=races+bees  Both emails of intrest were posted by Pardee.  January 22 & 24 2005.

I went to Strachans web site and read all of it including the Ohio State University link.  I also talked to them on the phone and have sent email to them.  I am lucky they are about an hour and a half's drive South of me.  It seems worth a try.  I will be starting three hives in the spring.  I will have to order queens (3) the first of next month for delivery in late April.  I will start my nucs as early as I can get them, as our first bloom is Manzanita in late February.  I will requeen with the NWC queens around the first of May.  That is when we will see what happens.
