Big supriseat the hives last night!
« on: July 18, 2004, 09:57:26 pm »
Wentoutto thehivesSaturdayafternoon to add a 2nd deepto the 2 hives & just before leaving my youngest son spotted a swarm in one of the apple trees.

Located a 4 frome NUC down the roard & was ableto capture the buggers! Now have three hives!

I believe it was thrownoffof one of my hives. Was a tad late getting the 2nd deeps on.

lLooks liek I'll be purchasing a 3rdcomplete hive, I robbed the 4 frams for the NUC from the other two hives.

Lucky devil!!  It's been a terrible weekend around here.  I went out to check out the bees, but decided it wasn't the best time for it.  One neighbor was having a volleyball tournement in the back yard.  Another had a roofing crew completely tearing off their roof, and still another was having what appeared to be a revival meeting in the back yard.  I kept imagining a roofer doing a Chevy Chase fall from the roof after being stung, teenage kids covered with bees in the local version of SWARM, or the reverand cursing me to damnation for maintaining this hoard of insects!!  I'm very jealous of you.  Good luck with the bees

Just talked to a big local Beekeeper who STRONGLY suggested I add the swarm to one of my himes. He thought it was way too late to build the colony up for the winter.

I'll inspect my 2 hives, determine the strongest of the two & add the searm to the weaker colony.

I'll put them in the top deep seperated from the other bees by newspaper.

May the best queen win!
