Title: Cleaning up a frame
Post by: buzzbee on September 23, 2007, 05:12:25 pm
I hung this frame with a small bit of comb from a tree for the bees to clean:

hmmmm i think that wasps don't know that-the fact it's meant for bees to clean it.

Love the bees flying in mid air in your photo. Well you and others here on the forum have convinced me to just leave my frames outside the hive for the clean up.

I can´t leave the frames outside because bees nibbled the wax.
If you leave the frames in the strongest hive the bees will clean and repair the wax.

Hope your not giving them the robbing instinct.  I'm having the worst robbing I have ever seen.  Normally I don't have any problems, but this year is unbelievable.  I have one hive that I have closed off for 3 days now and there is still a good 1.5 lbs of bees on the front screen every day.     I've restricted the rest down and there is still constant battles at their entrances.  It is sort of like dogs getting the taste of blood,  I can't believe how determined they are to rob.

My brother-in-law left our boxes out to be cleaned the other day. I took one of them strapped in to my car to take to my hive, smoked the bees that were on there, and threw it back on my hive so they could finish the job instead of some robbers (probably from our hives ;))

Ken, beautiful picture!!!

Rob, I don't know if this would be possible or not.  But maybe you could put a communal feeding container somewhere away from your bees to draw the robbers away?  They must be tormenting your hive terribly, it must bother you alot for sure.  Hope things work out well with this robber stuff.  Have a wonderful day, best of this great life.  Cindi
