I tried to get the time off for this, but it was denied. I am going to try again. Seems someone beat me to the dates.  I really want to go.  Wish me luck.  Also the Sacramento Beekeeping Association's email is:

info@sacbeekeepers.org. I do not know the person in charge since I just joined up.

The deadline for registration is November 14, 2008 and not many people have registered yet. It would be helpful if you plan to go if you could registered.

Updated speaker list:
o Dee Lusby
o Dean Stiglitz
o Laurie (Ramona) Herboldsheimer
o Corwin Bell
o Michael Bush
o Laura Tyler
o Michael Palmer

It would be worth it to hear any one of the speakers.

In case you missed the registration deadline, we've gotten permission for people to register at the door, they just won't get food.

I REALLY wanted to go.  I was even pricing plane tickets.  But it's just too hard to get away on short notice.

I hope to go to the one in AZ next spring.

Gas is very low now (comparatively)... IMO it would be worth the drive for anyone in a 600 mile radius.  That would include Denver, Rapid City, Sioux City, Minneapolis, Chicago, Des Moines, the Quad cities, St. Louis, Little Rock, OKC, KC etc.

It truly sounds wonderful and what an education that would have been. Thanks for that inspiring write up on the conference.

Here's a synopsis of the meeting for those who didn't make it:
http://www.bushfarms.com/organic_beekeeping_meeting.htm

Thank you for taking the time to write the synopsis.  I personally like the "longer" version.  You have a descriptive gift for writing that gives us a real sense of what it was like to be there.  I wish I could have been.

I love some of the things you said:
..."I knew that Ramona Herboldsheimer had a lot of information that we needed to hear about microbes in the hive... I had one of the paradigm shifts that disrupts your view of the world for a while."  (I would love to hear that presentation.  I'll check their website to see if it is there.)  I've had mini paradigm shifts or, as a friend calls them, "epiphanies" as the light has gone on about different aspects of beekeeping over the last two months.

..."Laura Tyler presented her movie "Sister Bee". This carefully, poetically crafted glimpse into the heart and soul of why people keep bees was a delight to me even though I've seen it several times. Besides I get to enjoy the reactions of the audience to it. Before this film, I had never seen a movie that even approaches getting across the spiritual undercurrent of beekeeping."  What you said about this movie made me want to buy it (I will) and also made me realize the source of the strange "draw" to keep my feral bees as opposed to giving them away.

Thanks, Michael for all you do.
