I am using some mutt queens, daughters from a queen from Calverts. Hopefully will be mated soon. If you want mite resistance, you have to build from sock that is surviving the mites. Live and let die, survival of the fittest.

I'd raise my own and hope they mate with local feral stock...

There is a company in Hawaii called Kona Queen. They have some of the most gentle queens I have ever worked with. They will sell only one or two queens at a time. You know what you are getting and they can even give you a history if you want. They have marked and unmarked queens. They are mite resistant also.

I am with you on this. Queens come and they go. The best ones for me are the ones where I let the hive raise their own from a frame of eggs from one of my most productive hives.

Ive heard good things about the Kona Queens. However, I agree with Michael Bush. I have bouught different queens from different breeders and now all my hives are feral and doing great.

I thought until recently, there were no mites on the islands. And even now, not sure if the mites are throughout the islands in the breeding operations. So I question the mite resistance of queens from an area void of mite pressure. Can you elaborate their breeding and resistant selection process? You got me wondering how all this works out in the islands. Thank you.
