-
Not positive, but I think it's about the only motel in town. Planning to be there also. Had a great time last year.

Kathy looking farward to it and plum tickled that chris is gona make it. bossman told me tonight he gona be here. also got 2 real live cheffs suppose to come
-
Uncle Bud, you stole my thunder. Yes Kathy and JP, I know you were wondering, I will be at uncle Bud's this spring and getting the plans started now. I'll see you folks then for sure peace.
-
Hey Kathy, if I can stay at that hotel can I bum a ride with you guys, promise not to be too obnoxious and only half drunk off my butt LOL.
-
shucks boss just so tickled had to tell somebody
-
beemaster, you are welcome to ride with us. chris will drive so both you and the deer should be safe. as to you getting obnoxious, in my travel kit is always some duct tape.....
-
Out of curiocity Kathy, how long a drive (in minutes please) is the drive, I only ask cause I took a ride with Bud to a supermarket one time, think it was near there but seemed a bit of a haul.
Funny story, as we got out of the truck, Bud hands me a sub-compact pocket pistol and said "Keep dat wid jah Misduh John!" my only reply was, I thought were were just buying chips and soda!
Oh how my thoughts on personal protection has changed. If NJ was a state where conceal carry were allowed, there is no doubt I would. The idea seams so far difference that back at Bud One and two, and in a good way.
NOTE: All Bud imitations are on flattery of Bud's unique college educated phonetic spelling - too all of us who love him, when we read Bud's posts, we hear him talking to us!
-
it's not far. maybe 10 miles? it will take us longer because chris drives more slowly....
and yes, i read that you want it in minutes, but it's not many. :-) hope that's good enough.
-
John, just be careful as she is a deerslayer behind the wheel.... :-D :-D
Wish I could come this year, but after missing work in February for knee surgery and associated bills that come with it , I probably won't be able to make it.
-
I wasn't really asking, my gerbil bladder was :drowning:
-
Probably 15 minutes at most John. Last year we were ducking tornado debris the first couple days.
-
I imagine enough people will be staying there??? If Chris and Kathy want to get away early, I'm sure I'd get a ride. I wouldn't mind a cot set up in the back room by Bud's fridge, our bunk room at work (used for snow emergencies only of course - lol) isn't much more than a closet with a blanket and pillow.
I'm coming to see everyone, not too concerned with amenities at some swanky center city Macon luxury hotel, who am I Joan Rivers :-D
NOTE: I shaved my beard a few weeks ago, I had it 6 months. Today, I start it again, I want to come to Bud 6 prepared, and I'm amazed at how little amount of hair that is when I shave it off, but it makes me look totally different. I only shaved it for a respirator fit test at work, now I have a reason to grow it back!
-
Just checked Best Western Oak Tree Inn Macon from Thursday to Tuesday, the hotel is booked solid. Now what??
-
call the hotel. i looked on expedia and got the same thing, but when i called they had rooms.
-
I wasn't really asking, my gerbil bladder was :drowning:
This post John had me cracking up as I have the same problem as you.
-
Count me in!!!!!!!!!
I'm coming for sure.
And sorry all i was a lil busy last summer but back and better now.
Bailey.
-
sho looking faward to seeing you buddie
-
You know I wouldn't miss it for the world. :)
-
I hope I will be able to make it. Bud gave me a invite no more than a week after joining the forum. I enjoy the forum, and want to meet the people behind it. Thanks to everyone for helping us new beeks out and being so friendly, and patient.
-
Buzzbee is pretty spot on John, about 13 miles and 15 minutes or if you were driving what I was which Bud described as " a little shitcan car" probably a little longer.
He also tried to pull that one on me to carry into the roadside restaurant for lunch. The only licence I had was to drive in the US and inside was the local Sheriiff, his deputy, the highway patolman and the resident judge. Wasn't I glad that I politely refused his offer otherwise I would have been sitting in a pool of sweat the whole time while we ate. Sorry Bud if I spoil your party trick on someone else, only wish I was there for you to try me again.
-
aw, Geoff, you would have been fine. pretty sure no one would have cared, and open carry is probably legal in MS anyway?
-
It's highly likely that my wife and I'll be there as well. I got the same thing online, said it was booked up. There's a marriot 30 miles north of macon. I'd rather stay with the crew.
-
last i checked there were still rooms at the hotel. call them directly. if you try to do it online especially thought a site like expedia, it shows full.
-
I called them today....the guy said a room wouldn't be a problem. Kathy's right, call direct.
-
My wife talked to them today. They said that their computer was dead and hoped to get another one this week. They didn't say but I wonder if that is why the E versions are showing booked up.
-
It's official - I just booked the flights, see you all at BUD6!!!
PS.... if you have any ammo to share, bring it along with your gun and let this newbee gun owner shoot a few rounds :)
And Bud, I'll be on WEDNESDAY NIGHT (tonight) on Ventrilo, hope some others join in around 5-8pm I need to burn a little data and can't think of a better way!!!
BTW - my arrival is 12:15pm the 10th and departure I believe 12:40pm on Tuesday - we sure can catch up with everyone, that's a bunch of days.
Kathy, wondering if you are flying into Meridian? which day, we might have the same flight.
-
we are flying into Birmingham on Thursday and driving over. The flight times were better and we could use southwest in case something went sideways. + free luggage :-)
we probably won't see anyone until Friday, unless you all go to dinner Thursday night or something. i'll pm you my cell number.
-
shucks Kathy when youall get here come on down gona bee something hapning al week getting ready heck we caught several swarms be fore the meet
-
i'll give you guys a call when we get into town, but i'm thinking it will be kind of late for thursday. we'll probably see you guys bright and early friday AM. and i'm on a diet so that i can eat those sinful cinnamon rolls!!
-
<PS.... if you have any ammo to share, bring it along with your gun and let this newbee gun owner shoot a few rounds>
This is the south you'll have to be more specific or just say "Bring it all!"
Is there a place to shoot high power rifles? If so, I might bring one of my Russian cannons aka, Mosin Nagant, 7.62x54R or my AR15, ect
-
we always banging at something as long as its safe and we don't know you so you sho gona have a fews eyes on you to start if you consider your self proficient you could probably talk up a little wager
-
No Bud.., I ain't no good at nothing. I thought that Beemaster might enjoy shooting it. Him being from NJ I thought he might not have never seen one before. Yall don't have to worry 'bout me being a clown while we're shooting or holding a rifle.
..iron sights or scopes? I usually don't use no scopes.
:-D
-
Out of the folks coming to Bud's, who would be interested in trading some of your local honey. I am willing to make straight trades, pound for pound with whoever might want some Southeast Texas honey for special occasions.
-
Seeing how this is my first year, the closest thing I have to honey is dead bees on the landing ;)
I would be willing next year.
-
As far as the Mosin Nagant, I've watched about a hundred Youtube Videos on it. Awesome historical piece that came just a hair too late into WII but had surplus that still allows it to be one of the finest era rifles at an incredible price.
Would love to see on and to shoot one. I have this dream in my head of shooting 50 different firearms in 50 minutes (Video captured for Youtube of course) might just be a record for a Jersey Fella!!!
However it works out, I mention this only because it is important - I can't shoot no shoulder busters, I have a severed shoulder rotator cuff muscle and don't want to lay myself up for the week. A few shots here and there, I'll deal with that, but I can't be banging out a mag or clip of anything in a row that's gonna be slamming my shoulder - besides that, no S&W 500 magnum please - lol. Although, I sure would love to fire one.
Gonna be good to see all I know and meet so many new members there. Thanks for the offer, and The Mosin may not be far from adding to my collection - I can have all the long guns I want :)
-
Have to apologise to everyone but now no hope of making it this year as eldest son and myself have won our way into the last 16 of state championship lawn bowls ( or Rock Chuckin). The younger son won his way through in the singles event so their will be a family migration to the north of the state between the 10th. and 16th. of April. I'll still be thinking of y'all every day but will hope to catch up via Ventrilo or Skype during that time.
To all the people who will be at Buds for the first time you really have some thing to look forward to.
-
youall know how geof got so good at chunking them rocks[ they didn't have a dog and his mom tied him out in the garden to keep the rues out take care geof we gona miss you and god luck chunking them rocks
-
It's on! Officially got the time off and made reservations. coming in on the 11th.
Hey Bud, do you want me to bring you some fresh eggs? (yard chickens)
-
geoff, if you want, pm me your skype address and i'll add it to my tablet. otherwise, we already have ventrilo on the lab top...which i may or may not bring as bud has his there.
-
SQEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! I've been waiting for this! How could I have missed it for so long!!
Checking with the hubby right now. Its a show year, so could be tight. But it is my FAVORITE weekend of the year!
Bud- if we can come, can we camp out by the bee barn? There's some dry land over there isn't there?
YAY! oh, fingers crossed!
love,
ziffa
-
zip just any where you want yard eggs you bet
-
John, I'll bring a couple of my mosins. You may not want to shoot them because they do pack a punch and I wouldn't want to be the one that ruined your vacation. I could bring my AR or 22 as well, no kick. I just love looking at my mosins, what a piece of history.
-
GSF:
For over a month I have read, and watched wvery video on the Mosin Nagant, the M44 as well. I will be buying a 91/30 because of the history - the M44 Chinese mod is cool as well, love the bayonet fix, but I know the M44 has a bit more kick and I want the real deal.
I've been looking at gun broker, following cosmoline packed (like Crackerjack - you don't know what prize is in the box) or the really detailed, refinished (kept to look period, but more attractive) versions for about double the cost and up.
The truth, I want this to be an adventure, and I want to open that sealed box, unwrap that bubble wrapped filled cosmoline and see if I have some matching serial numbers, a one-piece stock near the butt - seems making 17 million guns caused a growth shortage in the trees used for the stocks and the shoulder rest SOMETIMES had to be pieced together from two different trees, leaving a visible line that isn't attractive, but spoke volumes of what FURY they were producing them.
I think I would LOVE to get some FINNISH markings, what a story that tells - often you'll also see German markings as well, as captured guns by Germans, got stamped and sold to Finland, giving markings from all three countries.
Yes, I think I'll do the crackerjack version and see what surprise is in the box. Shame is, I watch all these Youtube videos from 2011 and the prices from the crated guns ran from $80 - $99 and now the surprised version goes for about $150-$170. We have no Cabela's in NJ, on their website they were listing them at $159, which was $99 2 years ago.
So, you can see, I'm doing my home work. I want one bad! But unless I run into a deal I think is a fair price for matching numbers and good wood and metal, I'll be shooting yours first. I'm gonna mail a bunch of paper targets down to Bud's, I think I have a few people her who want to get this rookie pumping some lead, brass and steal. I mentioned 50 guns in 50 minutes, something a YANKEE likely has never done before - I don't see that, but shooting an AR and anything that I can't rent up here to shoot will be a dream week.
So many people in our fine Southern States RIGHTFULLY see the North as a handcuffed 2nd Amendment part of the country and surely it is. I have one thing going for me as far as the Mosin goes here - I work for the Military and have full gun-range usage at (everyone has heard of) Fort Dix, NJ which is part of my mega base of McGuire AFB (who I work for) Lakehurst Navy Base (where I work) and the likely first stop for most of infantry of our Army, including my Dad.
Fort Dix has $4 range fees for me, outdoor Pistol and 200 yard rifle range and it's about 14 miles from me. I understand the only time it is busy is near hunting season in the Fall. I can't wait to get a Mosin Nagant out there, it literally is the only place I can shoot in this state without laying out $2000 membership to a shooting club which still has $60 range fees for members. For Dix, $4 :)
Thank you for talking guns with me - I included everyone here with my voyage from day one getting licensed ( a 5 month and 22 day wait) and if I think about it today, I'll be stopping off at my local police dept., for the packet to get 3 more handgun permits, which takes every bit as long as the initial application - which is incomprehensible to me, but true. Foolishly, I should have applied the day I got my FID card, I'd still have 3 months before I would get my permits, but I'd be that much closer to building up a handgun collection. For now (and even for ever) I am happy with my Glock 19 Gen4 and my wife loves her Ruger sp101 22lr - if we never had other home defense and range guns, we'd be fine, but I see the Sig Sauer P226 has a .22 version and it is 85% scaled to the original and the P226 under the M11A1 is the gun I would really like to have because I launch jets for the Navy, and Naval Aviators carry the M11A1. The .22 version is about $450 and it gives me a semi auto 22 I can have a lot of fun Plinking!!!
Peace GSF - I had fun writing this one :)
John

I seam to remember finland had no arms manufacturing, but were real good at fine tuning someone elses gun read the story of simone hyack (or however you spell it) and you can find out what the germans thaught or this old boy and he only had iron sights
-
The Finish actually broke some of the Russian air drop codes. Not only did they use captured Mosin's (and others) they tricked the Russians into dropping ammo. Heck of a note! Fighting against an enemy with their captures rifles and tricking the enemy into supplying the ammo to fight against them. Love it! They also taught the Russians a couple of things about winter warfare. The M39 has two slings brackets/braces(?) on the hand guard. One was used to sling one way when marching and the other was used for the snipers when they skied away from their kill shot(s). They were known to pick off several ruskies while they were marching then just ski down the hill vanishing into the snow.
Bud, I believe you're right. I think they may have traded with other countries some of their weapons cache or something for the manufacturing.
My numbers may not be right but I believe that they only made 100,000 bayonets for the Finish M39. Then because metal was in short supply they took 90,000 and melted them back down. The bayonet for the M39 is far more valuable than the rifle. If I remember correctly even some of the counterfeit bayonets are very valuable.
John, the pleasure will be mine to share these with you. I have one M39 and 5 mosins. I had more but I sold about 3 or 4 of them. Ammo for these is so dang cheap it ain't funny.
-
Ziffa, I sure hope you & the Hippy can make it down :)
Looking forward to seeing everyone, shaping up to be another good one!

I had to throw this in. In shipping to my FFL right now is an "EXCELLENT RATED" Mosin Nagant M44 - it won my heart after ready and watching so much content. I can see the day I'll get a 91/30 but I love that carbine with bayonet and I want that for my first historical gun, it's just so cool.
I can see in 1938 and weapons designers are told we need a shooter rifle with a swing out bayonet which the Russian Soldiers love so much - they can see the day when they will be walking the streets of Berlin, face to face, room to room fighting and the 91/30 is too long maneuver in close quarters. A shorter rifle with the success of the 91/30 was what would win the ground war - and by 1943-43 the M44 became the most beloved rifle of the foot soldiers. Said by many, including the NRA the M44 is the gun that finished the war.
So, this Jersey Boy who is 5 months from getting another pistol (if I wanted one - and I wouldn't mind the Sig Sauer P226 22lr version) would be nice to shoot along with Tracey at the range, we'd both just swap stalls and shoot those affordable 22s.
But I started looking vintage war rifles and after a month of 91/30s, I just started leaning to the shorter M44 and I shopped through Gunbroker, but found EXELLENT RATED M44s through Buds Gunshop for $219, I couldn't help myself. Even if Exellent means VERY GOOD - that's a nice rifle. I'm gonna put the order through J&G for the crated 762x54R spam carns (880 corrosive rounds) for about $140. So when I get about 3 pints of cosmoline out of every nook and cranny, do any touch ups needed, and get out to Dix.
About the recoil, I have some incredible firm black Styrofoam (not sure what it is called) but I know Tracey can form one of my old knew pads with the foam (about an inch think) for a butt plate cushion.
So, it's in the mail, hoping EXELLENT is at least very good, I'll have a pice of history, maybe not one that saw a lot of action - be a piece of it, in my hands.
Photos to follow.
Oh, I went to the range with my near 80 year old widowed neighbor yesterday, so she could shoot her husbands S&W 357 magnum (or as I like to call, her starter revolver) here's what I captured. Pretty cool videos if you can take the gunfire. and read lips.
Range 357 magnum Newbee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITt9BI3v_xY#ws)
Range 357 magnum 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2JLP6vcbaE#ws)
That's my range, that's my neighbor Gloria. She (and I) got to shoot 357's 38s, 2 different 9s and a 45 before we left. Fun afternoon.
-
boss man just get you some gass and wqsh the sucker up wont hurt nothing; just oil her up good when you finish
-
Yaarr! Is this a bee meeting or a gun meeting!!?? :-D
Thanks Bud! we'll try to get there early enough to stake a good claim if we can come.
Thanks JP, I hope we can too! It depends on Mikel's job situation. But I'm pulling for it.
If I tell him about all the 'heat' that's going to be there, it will probably help! lol
Fingers crossed. And for good weather too! Does anyone know if Allen is coming?
love,

I ain't skeered, JP! I am not the biggest fan of guns, but I understand the need at times. I do live in the 'hood. Plus, I do trust you all and especially bud to keep it safe.
I was actually thinking maybe I would get a chance to shoot one - supervised of course. :)
Thanks!

Had my airfare a month now and just waiting for the 24 hour period before the flight when you can print boarding passes. I got in early and chose some pretty good seats for the Philly to Atlanta flights, the hop overs to Meridian are a bit snug no matter what seats but I have the leave put in and approved - nothing left to do buy set up the parking at one of Philly's near the airport private lots - they are much cheaper and drive you right to the terminal - when you return, they are there within 10 minutes of you calling.
-
We had a great time at Bud5 last year...
Me and my nephew Easton are officially in again for this year...CAN'T WAIT! :)
-
We're looking forward to it as well. It will be a great pleasure to meet everyone. I will be the one wearing the full bee suit. Them little suckers single me out. My wife is easing into the bee keeping thing. She's getting past being afraid of getting stung. Getting stung actually has helped her through. She has never backed down from being there by my side on any project. When I got the bees she said; "I can promise you one thing, I won't be a bit of help at all."
I'm looking forward to the much needed hands on experience and fellowship.

Hey John,
I was over your way when H. Andrew(?) came and set down on your state. We were water purification and set up on Lake Tobesofkee.
I wasn't working for the city during the great flood. I was working for Primestar. I did help out and got a group together to do a underwater search and recovery when a couple decided to drive Thur a flooded parking lot and got sucked under a bridge for drainage ditch. it turned a f250 into a beetle. they thought a child was in it because a child seat was in the truck. searched a flooded creek for 1.5 miles using 2inch rope to anchor us during the search. only thing I found was a big tree with my face. the child was at the grandmothers house safe and sound but orphaned. we were without water for 36 days during that flood. trucked water to people in different neighborhoods to keep them off the roads.

gsf we sure go fo the hands on approach and anything you want to know about some one will grt you to a box and go through it with you asking all yo q. and we also focus on getting people comfortable around the feisty little heffers

-
That's one long haul you got there Kathy, that's for sure.
I leave around 3am no later than 3:30am, it's an hour and a half to the off airport parking near Philly , plane leaves 6:15am - I like to get there early, grab a breakfast platter near the gate. I get into Atlanta 8:30 and 1h50m layover - depart Atlanta 10:20est and arrive at Meridian at 10:57am Bud time!
It's good I get an extra hour when I get to Buds, but you feel like you flew that last leg in the Twilight Zone.
See Everyone over the weekend - Seems like good weather at Buds, Mid 70s day times all days and no rain until Monday.

:(
Ziffa and Hippiebee won't be making Bud 6, sad to say. Our bees chose this week to swarm, so we've been chasing them the last 2 days.
Mikel's been 'fishing' for one up 50 feet in a tree all day. Shook them 6 times but just can't dislodge them. I'll post pics, it's hilarious.
So sorry to miss everyone. Next year for SURE!
Have a blast! Someone do the swarm dance for bud for me!!! Kathy? :D
love to all, cant wait for the pics and stories!

We got home about a hour or so ago. We had a blast at bud 6 and looking forward to bud 7. I will say that it is going to be hard to top bud 6 but we have plenty of time to start trying. :) It was great to meet some new faces, spend precious time with old friends, and do what we all love to do.

LOL Just busy with life but I am planning to be more visible again. Man SC you sure missed a great time and I hope you can be there with us next year. I want to also take this time to promote ventrilo. It is a cool voice chat ..or text chat that enables us to get to know each other more.I would venture to say it is also the main reason all of us have been so comfortable meeting and joking with each other in person. Bud is around most of the time in the evenings and hopefully more of us can be also. It is a shame we let such a valuable resource go unused. Thank you for all who attended and followed along.

Just got home, 4 hours later than expected due to another OOC plane and also backed up weather - walked in at 11:05, estimated was 7:30pm tops.
Good flights all the way back, just lots of layovers.
I believed I wrote a post last night on Bud's PC (the P stands for Prehistoric - heehee)
and not sure if got uploaded. But I'm off until Sunday when all my hard work and being the best man for the job (I humbly state) I get to finally enjoy my first "Cold Iron Summer" in theory, you are on a one-man shift, still rotating, but no Summer Maintenance until I rotate 4 days a month into maintenance days - that's how it works. But the best part is on 4-12 and 12-8 it's piece and quiet for my first time in 25+ years there.
So, get the most bucks, do the least work - I almost sound like management - lol.
But as likely can tell, I'm not getting into Bud6 until after I wake tomorrow. I'm creating right now in Coffee HOUSE called ""BUD6 THOUGHTS, VIDEOS and PICS - So eventually we'll sticky it there, but let it float for a while we everyone will better see it - I doubt few people look at the stickied posts everyday to see if a new one is there - so we'll let it float.
But PLEASE EVERYONE - let's get EVERYTHING from Bud6 in that topic, so FBers, Youtubers, Forumites (didn't know we had mites :P - all have a one place to find it all.
Ken has been gathering stuff,I uploaded a bunch to Youtube and I'll get the post started - KEN, just got home, we'll work together on getting it everywhere - I hope if all the links are good, no particular social network will fight us.
To everyone, my videos for not are raw and maybe a beekeeper getting stung the tenth time in the face won't be yelling "happy birth" so expect it to sound like groups of beekeepers beekeeping.
Last thought - Several people went out of their way to make the gathering extra special for me - a very kind gesture which I again thank them so much for doing.
To those who cooked and brought food, I drool at the cakes, muffins, and other great homemade baked goods. Then the cooker on site Schawee's alligator picante' I believe was outstanding - full flavored gator meat slow cooked in a delicious full-favored broth that made a round 2 on a following meal just for sopping bread!!!
And one last thank you for someone who likely won't see this - Chef Bernie -it's Bud's fishing Buddy and he is a we'll ventured chef in many restaurants, every where. He cooked several times and was an incredible one-man-cooking-show: Liz (JP's wife) and I asked to soo chef for him, prep up what he'd need. We were politely banned from the kitchen - lol. and 30 minutes later Chef Bernie had 12 pounds of chicken marinating and a wicked pasta salad, Liz and I would still be chopping onions.
Many more names to say thanks for coming and I really can't see how anyone had anything else but! Each night had good food and even entertainment, and every day had enough beekeeping with hands on by everyone interested. I thing what several members and newbees learned was the pace that is kept in a beeyard when tearing it all down to make all viable colonies, inspections, swarm capturing ( I heard 28 swarms caught and colonized) work, learning, jump in the deep end of the pool and relax in the evenings - some very late evenings.
More coming - PLEASE POST about what all happened in the ALL BUD6 THOUGHTS, VIDEOS and PICS
