Small removal today
« on: July 27, 2008, 07:30:52 pm »
This one went pretty smoothly, although it was very hairy working at the top of a 30' ladder. I've had a couple nightmares leading up to today about falling off, but fortunately, I didn't! I don't think I'll take any more ladder jobs; if the homeowner is willing to rent a bucket of some sort to get me up there safely, no problem. Otherwise, I'll pass...it's not worth the risk.

The brood comb is on the left, and the honeycomb on the right. Although the honeycomb ended about 2 inches below the gap, the brood comb went deep, 12-15 inches below the ledge. Since I couldn't remove that section of roof, I had to reach in and down. A few nails gave the comb great support and made it tough to pull out. I didn't see the queen at all.

Nice.  I'm with you - those high ladder jobs are sketchy.  I guess you can get accustomed to anything, but I'm not sure I want to.
