When plans come together
« on: March 24, 2009, 11:45:51 pm »
Did I mention somewhere that I was getting an old travel trailer and making it into a chicken coop? I got it here Thursday. Then today an elderly woman came up to the house and asked if I wanted to buy some chickens. I ended up getting 18 hens and a rooster one of those nice chicken feeders and waterers and a bunch of feed and oyster shells all for $70 dollars. The chickens will be a year old in May already laying.  :-D

This type feeder but it is a bit taller.

And this waterer

Just these two items are nearly $60.

Wow, good for you!  You'll want to get a cover for that feeder or you know what will be in there all the time   They are smelly, nasty things if you let them be!

After about three days cooped up I thought it would be OK to let the new birdies out and they would find their way back into the coop at night.... Right  :?

So I go out and check on them. There were 6 in the travel trailer coop.

I have this old bus that belongs to a friend and is storing his junk and mine. I have pallets stacked up beside the bus making a perfect four stage step up to the top of the bus. Guess where I found the wayward birds? Up on the bus

Figured the coyotes could also get up there so I had to get them down and into the coop.

Chickens are so much fun.  :-D

Just be thankful you don't have Guineas or Ducks.  Where, oh where, has my little birds gone?

From what I've heard about guineas, you're lucky.  I'd love to have them but have been warned they will avoid the coop and roost in the trees.  Around here that's certain death.  How did you get them to go into their coop?

I didn't do anything. They were just raised with the other chicks. Perhaps they think they are chickens.
