Beekeeper again!
« on: May 13, 2013, 10:22:05 pm »
My 8 packages of Italians came on Saturday.  They all got installed on Sunday.  Nothing really went wrong.  All of the queens looked small, but they may plump up when they start laying again.  I am going on a fishing trip on thursday.  S I will check on the queens at that time.  Maples in full bloom and all hives seem busy.  Very excited!

Someone really ought to tell them that the world of Ayn Rand?s novel was not meant to be aspirational.

I wanted post an update but I had to leave for a trip.  I rechecked my bees on Thursday of last week.  They all did well.  Every queen released without trouble.  I either visualized every queen or saw her eggs.  Once I saw either of those things I shut the hive.  All are taking the pollen patty but at different rates.  All were given a comb of honey and are still doing great on stores.  All bringing in pollen.  Maples just finished but dandelions are just starting.  Will have to monitor every week for space.  I think that if they keep foraging at this pace, I will need to pyramid up faster than I initially thought.
