Hello all,
New member and new to beekeeping. My hive arrives 3/18 and my first Nuc in mid May. I have been devouring books on the subject as well as internet sites trying to glean as much info as possible before the big day.
I am not a total novice, I used to accompany a bosses father while he tended his hives, and helped him get a load of bees from a library wall. Still, I feel like the more I know now and get refreshed with, the more apt I am to be successful.
Another member directed me here who shares another common interest. I am looking forward to learning and maybe someday be able to assist someone else getting started.
We are in PA now, but will be moving to our land in NH in 4 years and the plan is to be as self sufficient as possible, and bees figure into that equation. I am originally from NH. I also garden extensively and wild forage way more than most people would think healthy :-D ( Morels, berries, Chanterelles, Black Trumpets, Grifola ).
I just ordered some locust lumber from the Amish out in the valley to use as hive stands, I should have that by the weekend.
Looking forward to doing some reading and learning.
