New member, new bee keeper in MD
« on: March 23, 2012, 10:29:17 pm »
Our church is just getting started in bee keeping. Starting slow with two hives, got the hives anxiously awaiting the bees. Our pastor wants to keep it all natural. We are going with smaller bees and staying away from chemicals. We will see how it goes. Looking forward to learning from you all.

Hi Marc

Welcome to the forum.  There is alot of things here to read and learn from.  You may want to see if there is a local bee club.  Any questions people here will try to help with an answer.  Good luck with your bees.

Joe

Glad you're here!

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Thank you for the warm welcome. We have our two hives set up and packages installed. Made sure the queens were out of their cages today–they are! Lots of lovely new comb and I am pretty sure I saw eggs already. I think we are off to a good start.

We are using "small bees" (4.9) from a supplier in Tennessee. We are hoping that might help cut down on Varroa and Tracheal Mites. They seem pretty docile so far, and very active. I can see how this can be addictive.
