They're about to do an exterior overhaul, the inside is actually pretty nice. Everyone including the patients are happy and satisfied.

I have been getting some calls, but not nearly as many as you.
I got a call yesterday for a hive of bees in a box behind an old shed that they wanted to tear down. The property has been empty for about 1 1/2 years and there was a homemade bee box behind the shed. It was an easy one so far, as I only had to pick up the box of bees and take them home with me. My question to you and anyone else is what would be the best way to get this box of bees into a normal hive? I haven't opened it up yet, as it was made of plywood, about 22 inches square with an opening on one corner. Can I take the top off and put a super on the top hoping that they will move up, and then I can open the original box to remove any honey? It was
very heavy so I think that there is a lot of honey in the box. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks BEEMAN - Franklin, LA

I would do a cut-out and transfer into a hive body or two.

Thanks for the suggestion JP. If the box is as full as I believe it is, it probably will take at least two supers to transfer the contents. I am not sure if it has frames in it or not. I will find out when I open it up to do the cut out. I will keep you advised of the condition of the hive when I do the cut out. I plan to try to do the cut out this Saturday if posssible. I will try to take pictures as I do the cut out, but I am not sure how to upload them on the site. Keep up the good work of saving the bees and the future of our food supply.

You're right though, it doesn't look like much on the outside, pretty bad in spots actually, between the carpenter bee damage, termite damage, squirrel damage, and probably a little rot here and there, it needs some work.
Really nice people to work for, the dentist and I had flyfishing for redfish in common. His wife is pretty cute too! Hey, I can look!! :-D :-*
