I did a little experiment with DE by putting two SHB and four SHB larvea in a jar and really coated them good with DE. And 24 hrs. later one beetles and two of the larvea are still alive a 50% kill in 24 hrs these are tough little guys. I have put it on the ground around the hives but this makes me believe I'm wasting my time. I'll try the lime and see how that works.

Isn't Hydrated Lime known to cause cancer? (don't know just asking)

Let us know how your experiment goes. I almost a week in my oil trap from greenbeehives and I've got at least 50 beetles and about 5 larva (SHB/WM?) and two yellowjackets.

I'm going back in this weekend. It's been two weeks. I want to see how the feeding program is going toward their non existent stores, look to see if there's any SHB in top cover and look for any damage, just look, and to see if they have built up those frames I rotated.
