warning on label?
« on: October 30, 2012, 10:52:55 pm »
Just a quick one to see how many of you put a warning label on your packaged raw honey?

Was going to add the line " NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 18MTHS"

Would that cover it - scared it may lead to questions and then onto fears about botulism...

I personally don't think it's necessary as all mothers seem to know not to give new borns honey in general.

Just my opinion.

I haven't seen a regulation about this one, but please let me know asap because my labels are getting designed as we speak and it's going to take me about 50 years to get through 1000 of the things.

I would say "Honey is a raw food and no raw food should be fed to infants (pick your age, but six months used to be common, I don't know what if any legal requirements you have)"

I haven't seen any legal requirement to state that on your labels. As Lord V said, there is nothing in the food standards about it.

Even the big name brand Capilano doesn't mention it on their labels (however it is in the FAQ section of their website).

If you really want to include something, perhaps you could re-word the warning into something more positive: "Suitable for children over the age of 18 months".
