I often put undrawn foundations or half drawn along the wall. It lets air flow and frames do not get mold.

In the middle of the box white comb may devide a cluster to another side, because bees do not love white combs. So put dark ones in the middle and white combs in edges.

Yes bees winter better on dark comb.

If you have a "few" I would but them in the outsides in the bottom box.  The top box should be fully drawn and  full of honey before winter.

First, intallation before feeding

- put brood frames to lowest  box because bee cluster starts wintering where the last brood were.

- pollen frames :   wall - light frame-  pollen -pollen - stores....  ( easy to getmould against wall)

when you put brood frames to lowest, consider if you get all bees there.
Shake the rest of bees in front of entrance. If they all go in, one box is enough for winter.
