Moving a Hive Box
« on: September 29, 2006, 10:59:43 pm »
Before winter sets in, I'm planning on moving my hive roughly 25 ft. from where it is now. Different location in my backyard.

Now I know I can't move it all 25 feet at once as the bees may not find it. So how far can I move it each day to get it where I want it?

Thanks.
Jeff

Hello,
About 3 feet or so a day or every other day.  If it is the only hive you have you might be able to move it at night and place a branch in front of the entrace so they will reorient.

Why not wait until they cluster and move it then?  They'll reoriente when they come out again.

Thanks for the help all.

My cool summer spot will be to cool and damp for them in the winter, so I'm going to move them to a more open non-shaded area.
