Thanksgiving Bees Again!
« on: November 24, 2011, 12:03:21 am »
Last year some of you may remember I removed a colony from an old garage. I began the day before thanksgiving and went back the day after because the queen went deep into the side wall and I just couldn't get to her that day. Did get her black Friday and the rest is history. They have been at Schawee's for some time now.

Well, wouldn't you know it today I removed a colony between floor joists of an attached garage. I didn't take a single picture nor did I film, just wasn't up to it this evening. I could take some pictures or do a video tomorrow morning for anyone interested. They are in the back of my truck now.

My plan is to combine them with a small queenless colony I have been feeding since Halloween. I could make a video of that.

Anyway, went in through the sheetrock ceiling on this one. Had to open three sections up and use bee quick to run a bunch of bees upward from down in the wall void, between the soundboard and brick.

Late evening they started to cluster quite a bit but I was sure glad the queen came up and I was able to catch her on the band board.

We had a mild front come in last night so we did have a slight change in our weather. Boy did the bees cluster tonight after I shook them atop the frames. I had to really work them to get 'em to go down into the nuc because they were just plain determined to huddle together on the outside of the box. After a good 45 minutes of workin' 'em finally was able to put the top cover on and seal the entrance.

If it were not for daylight's saving time I would have gotten home about 20 til eleven, which would have sucked big time. So even though I abhor the time change I was happy to get home at a reasonable hour.

Happy thanksgiving to everyone!

Been waitin' for you to bust my chops on that one Bud.  ;) Have to bring the whole dang computer back in, with the external hard drive I purchased last time I was in. Talked with Apple three times about this. They suggested a few programs to be able to take the info that's on disc and convert it so it can be transferred to imovie but they don't support the programs they suggest and won't assist me over the phone.

I've tried several times to utilize these suggested programs and have gotten nowhere.

Please be patient just a little longer my friend.

If anyone else has a suggestion on this I'd appreciate that as well.

Happy thanksgiving!

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

I did find this: http://www.softarch.com/EN/Product/ReadDVDMac.html

Unfortunately there is a cost for that. What are the tools Apple support recommended?

So does this mean its still ok to do removals this late in the year?  I am near Fort Worth Texas and I have 3 removals left to do, I am trying to talk the home owners into waiting until spring but not sure they will be willing.  Right now we are getting into the high 60s to low 70s during the day and high 40s to low 50s at night.  I have also been busy making fondant for the colonies I think are light.

As Bud suggested its best if you can wait until spring but...    not everyone is willing to wait. If that's the case, this time of year I place them in a single or double nuc set up.
