Title: Found a queen what do I do?
Post by: orvette1 on April 25, 2012, 06:50:34 pm
I was taking apart one of my dead hives. I found the queen, at least I think it is the queen from that hive. Should I introduce her to a queenless nuc? Or should I just throw her out?
Here in Hawaii we can't order bees from any other state. So throwing her out hurts.
If I introduce her to the nuc, how do I do it without a queen cage?

Make your own queen cage.

Roll up some screen wire, stuff a marshmellow in the end after putting the queen and some attendents in. Hang it between two frames.

It can even be so large that you need to use a regular size marshmellow. I'd cut it in half tho.
