Title: screen on the vents
Post by: gmcharlie on March 01, 2009, 10:06:04 am
I use vented top covers with a 2X3 inch oval hole in the middle for air flow.....  I always get bees between the  cover and the lid..  a real problem with a a feeder on  and annoying any other time.  Has enyone tried putting hardware clothon that hole??  or will the bees cover it with propolis??  not sure if they reconize the vent  or if its just a hole to them that needs plugged?

I put hardware cloth over the hole I enlarge in the cover, then I can set a quart jar feeder on top of that plus a hive box and lid when feeding is necessary, No bees,or stings.
Changing or filling feeder doesn't disturb them at all.

Bees propolis very little !
