Title: Hive names
Post by: TigerLily on May 06, 2007, 10:39:58 am
Hey all,

I have one tbh that I dubbed "Margabeetaville" and now I am getting another one. Any suggestions on names for the new one?

My first hive was "Beezus" after a character in a children's book. Next two hives were "Sue-Bee" and "New-Bee" named after an dear old Aunt who took a lively interest in my beekeeping. Future hives will be named "Scooby" and "Doobie".

I did a whole blog post on this topic because my three hives are ACTING like their names - Bermuda, Proteus, Mellona.....hmmmm.  Maybe 1, 2, and 3 would have worked better!

I use numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.) but I also indicate which type of bee I have in each hive.  So mine are #1NWC, #2NWC, #3MH, #4GI.  New World Carnis, Minnesota Hygenic, Golden Italians.  My advise: Do it whichever way suits you.

Lefthand hive, righthand hive - works with two  :-D  Up in Maine it'll be lefthand hive, righthand hive, and middle hive.  Now if we get more hives in either location, we're in trouble!  :-P

I did some looking around online and found a neat little sight. I'm now thinking of calling them birds of the muses. A common story was that infants whose lips were touched by bees would become great speakers, poets, storytellers, and philosophers. Thus, bees were often called "birds of the muses".

I've named two of them after my grandsons, and the other two just have numbers right now.  My eldest grandson has been given the assignment to come up with names for them.

I got my bees from where the old chicken ranch in La Grange stood, on which the musical, "The Best Little brothel in Texas" was based.  So I've named all mine the names of the bleep.  Miss Mona, Doatsy Mae, and Taddy Jo.  Fancy was already named.

That's very neat. A great way to remember people who are no longer with us.

Got quite the little potty keyboard on you don't you?
Yes, John has the family friendly censor board built into the forums. We don't want to teach the kiddies any new words. John does not like emails that say" My child said he learned this word on your forums."

But fret not. That is what the preview button is for. I have seen it slice and dice a few of my posts until I have.... ahem...reworded them.

But that is okay there are four letter words that get through the filter like diet.

Sincerley,
Brendhan

I guess I have no imagination, or I just expect mine to get to work so I can steal their honey (if there's enough to steal).

I call my one and only:  "my hive" ;)

brit your hives are easy to name, call the first "Ouch", second "Puffy", third "Epi", fourth "Pen", and so on, you see what I mean, Dang I hate to see someone that loves beekeeping be allergic, you just going to have to be careful, they are fun but nothing is worth getting hurt over.........

Haha - I'd probably call it "my second hive". So there I go - "my first hive", or hive 1 and "my second hive", hive 2.

I guess I'd go to numbering them like many others. An observation hive sounds fun!
