That house looks like a lot of work for a flip (windows, siding, trim, deck, roof).  How much is that little house worth down there?

I almost always want a contract for work I’m having done to avoid the possibly of somebody putting a mechanics lien on the house for lack of payment.  I’m not looking to sue anybody, just protect myself.

Up here, they normally just reside over the old asbestos cement siding.

BlueBee, this ain't a house your going to see in Southern Living magazine.    There's some "interesting" work that has been done to it. The guy might be going to move in to it later, if not he probably picked it up for next to nothing and will resell or rent (HUD?).  Folks always talk about location, location, location...the railroad tracks are close enough to the house that you could sit on the front porch and hit a passing train with a rock.

Anyhow, it's got two colonies in it that I'm going to get. ;)

Yes, from what I hear the asbestos is normally simply covered over with the siding.  Lot's of it all around here...sounds like plenty in Michigan, too.

ETA:  I talked with the guy some and he's a really nice guy.  Been working on the house for a while, it was his grandmother's house that he purchased from her estate.  Working on bringing it back up to speed and planning on moving in.  He installed a commode and painted the bathroom  while I was removing the bees today so he works pretty fast.  Got a ways to go, but he doesn't appear afraid of the work. ;)

I hired a cement guy to do some foundation work on an old house I own and he just took out his diamond bladed circular saw and hacked away at the asbestos cement siding without a care in the world.  I was a little shocked myself, but heck what do I know, I’m just a beek. :-D

Lots and lots of old houses here with the old asbestos cement siding.  Its cement and pretty much lasts a lifetime if maintained.  It’s just the look that goes out of style. :(

Right next to a railroad track huh?  Now that is funny.  I wonder how the bees react when each 100 ton freight car goes rumbling by.

Sounds like an interesting job.  Maybe we’ll see you in Southern Living next month. :)

Well, I'm going for the small colony tomorrow.  My mentor can't make it as his family's giving him a birthday dinner...I had to grin at the disappointment in his voice.  Something tells me that he might just show up later to "check on me".  I'm still not so sure of some things but I've got most everything loaded or staged for loading in the morning.

The small colony is the one behind the sheetrock.  I got one of the Harbor Freight multifunction tools that JP has recommended in the past....what a deal....it was either 14.99 or 15.99!!!  I also picked up a $3 drywall saw in case...  Anyhow, I figure to cut a perimeter around where I feel the cluster is...I really hope the comb is attached to the 7/8" exterior boards and not the sheetrock.  I've still got a lot of unanswered questions but times ran out for talking, I guess.  I'll take JP's advice and act like I've don't it a hundred times...hopefully I won't run screaming like a little girl from the house never to be seen again.  :-D

Sure hope that window lets up...
