Title: Bee keeping suppliers
Post by: Lord Viykor on October 08, 2012, 04:35:03 am
Just curious as to who the OZ beeks are buying their bee keeping gear from.

I have been going through Quality Bee Keeping Supplies at Sumner Park and found them to be pretty good. This time round I went with Pender Bee Keeping Supplies in NSW, some of there gear is cheaper than QBKS which is why I gave them a go, I figure it doesn't hurt to shop around.

Who else is around that is good to deal with?

Are you just talking about places near you or further afield? I use Bob's Beekeeping in Eltham, Melb. He is by far the closest to me to drop in to and his prices aren't bad. Better than Redpaths I think.

Redpaths are slightly cheaper for wooden ware, particularly in carton lots. For every thing else, it's Bob's all the way. :-D

There you go, since I'm not buying in carton lots maybe I'm just paying for the convenience. :-D

Close would be nice, further afield is ok to.

I been buying my boxes and frames from Sumner Park, just got an electric knife and extractor from Penders. Wasn't too sure about buying boxes and getting them shipped, I figure the freight would negate the cheaper prices.

I've only done it the once, but I think it's the way to go. Now I just have to find time to put them all together

I always think the best supplier is the one closest to home . . . . . .  but Penders are good

Being new to bee keeping, spoke to "Pete" on sunday.

As I am based in the Western District of Vic it's a bit of a trip to any supplier.   Melbourne suppliers are generally closed on Sundays.   Contacted one in Geelong who didn't seem overly interested.

Seymour Bees were then tried and he was only too happy to open up and take my hard earned.   Very friendly and helpful bloke and no doubt I will continue to deal with him, even though he is a bit further away.    Cost savings more than covered fuel.

Hi, Yellow Hornet.
Where in the western district are you? Just asking as I grew up near Colac and now have a farm near Simpson so I get up that way fairly often. So If you are not too far away I would be happy to pick up bee stuff in Melbourne and drop it off if you get stuck.
Cheers.
Paul.

I use TOBIN @ Bathurst,NSW... Penders always seemed to drag their chain.

Guys are great and very old school - they send my stuff the same day, I usually get it the next and they put an invoice with it for me to direct deposit...

I must say I wasn't terribly happy with Penders when I realised they'd kept hold of my credit card number from the time before.  But I didn't tell them that.

Harpo...what do you get from Tobin?  Little coffins for your deceased bees???   :?
