new swarm questions
« on: June 13, 2009, 02:29:14 pm »
I previously posted  questions about one of my two hives that swarmed.  Discovered this on 6/07/09 and found several capped queen cells.  Well, late yesterday afternoon, we witnessed another swarming and assumed it was the second hive.  They ended up 40 ft. up in a tree virtually right over the 2 hives.  They're still there this afternoon. I've set out an empty box with a couple wax foundaton frames in it to try to attract them.   BUT, I think it may be a second swarm from the same hive!(After less than a week?!)  There are still a lot of bees coming and going from the second hive, but the traffic from the first hive (the one that swarmed) is much reduced again.  I did not know that some recommend removing all but one or two of the queen cells after a swarm to avoid a second swarm from a virgin queen.  Does this work?  Is it too late to do it now after a second swarm?  Will there even be any more queen cells left?  Does this colony have a chance?  HELP!
