Lesser waxmoths(you read that right).
« on: October 08, 2006, 01:27:35 pm »
I'm looking to acquire some lesser waxmoths(Achroia grisella...not greater waxmoths) for purposes other than beekeeping of course.    If you have an old comb or something infested with them and would like to do someone a favor please let me know. I'd be happy to cover shipping and extra to make it worth your time. Truly a case of someones trash being someone elses treasure.

Thanks!
Joseph

I have lots of both right now.  But how do I tell them apart in the larva stage?

According to this one the greater waxmoth larvae are more tapered at the back...so I'm guessing you could say lesser waxmoth larvae are more cigarette shaped. I wouldn't mind a few greater waxmoths mixed in as when they grow big I could just remove them.

Thanks! If you're up to it let me know and I'll shoot over a pm.

Or be somewhere that would cost way too much to ship to.  :)

No plans for waxmoth invasions here!

There is a good chance I won't get any.  It's raining and cold now, and it's supposed to freeze tonight.

Then again there always seem to be some hatching in my basement if I can figure out what they live on down there.  Both greater and lesser.

If any survive let me know. Perfect timing though

While a lot would be nice, I'd be fine with just enough to get te ball rolling for a population.
