Title: Robbing the Bees (video)
Post by: 2-Wheeler on September 03, 2008, 11:21:20 pm
I created a time-lapse video of our recent honey harvest and put it to music. We sure looked like we knew what we were doing at that speed  :-D

Click the "watch in high quality" option if you have bandwidth and be sure the sound is on.

What is kind of hard to see is what is going on behind the hives after we've removed each box. If you stop on some of the frames, you'll see an image like this:

I'm holding a regular electric leaf blower and blowing the bees off each frame. The leaf blower is plugged into a portable generator outside the view of the camera.  After a few seconds of the wind, we put each cleared frame into a large plastic bin with a lid on it as shown here:

This was the first time we'd used this method and it worked really well for us. We quickly cleared six medium supers in just a few minutes and the bees didn't get too upset about it all.
