Brand new package installed next to new package
« on: May 03, 2007, 08:04:35 am »
My first package will be two weeks old when I install my second package.  The two hives will have 21" space between them.

Will I have problems with the new bees trying to join the two week old hive?  I have painted the front of the hives different colors.

Any recommendations from anyone or should I not be concerned?

Thanks!

Anytime you have hives realatively close to each other you can expect a certain amount of drift to take place.  With drones it is normal.  If one hive seems to be building up due to drift it would be wise to seperate them further and add some other type of marker to better distinguish the hives.  Using dufferent colors wwith hives so close was a good move.
