1st Honey harvest
« on: September 21, 2009, 05:16:25 pm »
Well I finally got my first harvest after the end of my second year. I only was able to take 2 med supers and ended up with about 12 quart jars. Here are some pictures of the harvest. I did the crush and strain trying to use Michael Bush's idea with the bucket. I guess I should have looked at the picture because I only drilled 5 little holes in the bottom of the bucket. I did not use any heat during the harvest and the honey is thicker than what I am use to. Funny, I already have people calling and coming over to see if I have any left over.

Shawn, lovely, now wasn't that all worth the wait?  That first honey harvest has gotta be one of the most special, it was to me, yay!!!  Have that most awesomely wonderful day, health.  Cindi

It was very nice. The only thing I thought of when I was giving a bottle away was "how many bottles do I have left. Woops! None! Oh well. The neighbors got some to keep them happy, sister-n-law for supply me with the flowers needed to help the bees along, other family I promised to give some to, and a coworker. Off to Walmart I go to buy some honey.

As a newbie and still hoping for my first harvest.

I learned something from your post.

Smaller jars.....

Then I will be able to spread the happiness further.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Agree. I did not plan on having a honey this year so I did not have any jars on hand. I had to run to the store and quart size is all they had.
