Hi guys
Does anyone have any tips for small scale transportation, loading and unloading hives.... trailer, ute, trolley? what do you use?

I've been thinking about this a bit, and am planning to go with a tray back ute and 12v electric hoist/winch. Basically drive as close as possible to the hive site, and drop the hive off the tray with the hoist, move forward and repeat. I think you could probably fit 10 to 15 hives on a tray back. The other option I guess would be a tail gate loader and some sort of trolley or in a pinch a trailer with a ramp and trolley.

sounds like a plan to me paul

Mostly I load them a box at a time on a small trailer, leave the trailer until dark and then close them up and move them. Often I wait until O dark thirty and close them up, move them and then it's light by the time I get there and I unload them. Or I leave them on the trailer...

yep its looking more and more like i need a back gate :)

ime lazy ; just built me some trailors and once on they stay there till they die out. i put a rope around it hook up and pull 10--20 at a time and no closing them up, just wait fo dark, hook up and go

My decision is influenced by the fact that I have a free 4x4 tray back ute/pickup coming my way whenever I get 'round to picking it up :-D

the 125mh is the recommended model for utes, but when you contact them prices start from $12K,
I am going to make my own version. I will post my progress as it advances, but I am still pulling boxes of honey almost every weekend atm, no slowing down yet to start proto typing.
cheers

I use a Toyota 1.5 tonne tray and a trailer with ramps and use a trolley to move them around to where I need them. No problems as long as they're strapped.
I like the sound of your method though Preston Paul. :-D
