Title: Video on a Swarm Capture and a Honey Raid
Post by: Grandma_DOG on May 25, 2010, 01:36:23 pm
I was called out to a construction site to remove a swarm. Once I got there the Superintendent on site recommended we visit a shack at the edge of the property with a hive in it.  I didn't have cutout gear with me, but I borrowed a sawzall and we did an impromptu honey raid, leaving the bees some as well.

Dude! Great video, love the sped up stuff, how was it achieved? That colony did not appear to have many bees in it. What's the story? How did the honey taste? What source, any idea?

I use an open source non-linear editor for my videography. Cinelerra. It's free, you can download it. But it is very complex, I'd recommend using Microsoft's MovieMaker for beginners.  The speed up is a simple thing, I just dropped 9 frames out of 10. Few want to see me cut out a wall in real time.

The colony was surprisingly bee-empty. It had either thrown multiple swarms or was not brooding up well.

The honey came in two flavors, winter and spring. The winter stuff was goldenrod wangy, the spring stuff was quite buttery, so I suspect it was indian paintbrush. It was the 2nd best honey I've ever had, unfortunately the Super on site divided up that honey amongst the raiders. I only got 4 lb.
