Problem
« on: March 13, 2009, 11:13:52 pm »
Hey everyone, I caught a swarm on march 1st from old hive.

I have'em in a 8 frame hive but thieir starting to build comb in between and the frames are starting to get stuck together.

I was thinking to pull the 2 outer frames to give more space

I found a hive in a abandoned swimming pool but it's in a pipe. how can i take it out its been there for about one year

Get in there and cut the frames apart while you still can.
If they are Perkin like that, add another box.
Remember, 8 frames will fill up faster than ten.
 use the numbers. 7/10=  5/8
if 5 frames are full+ they need more room.

Do not pull the outer two frames to give more space. If you do that, they'll really draw comb between the frames and may hang some wild comb from the lid of the hive. Add another box of foundation or comb on top to give more room.

Many 8 frame boxes have more "extra" room as compared to a 10 frame box. Make sure the frames are pushed together tight. If you spaced out the frames to account for the extra space, they will screw up the comb. Always draw comb with foundation making sure your frames are tight together.

Yes, and if you have much space left and don't intend to go to less frames for honey once they are drawn out. Then you can take a piece of 1/4th or 3/8th ply wood cut to fit inside and just tack it in place. I had to do this with some of the home made boxes i got when I first started.
This is what happened when some one used ply wood to make boxes with, using out side measurements, with 1/2 inch ply wood. That left a half frame width inside.doak
