Sam's duck hunting buddy "Rex" died after 15 long years of hunting together. Sam knew that he'd have to get a new dog right away as the two years of training required would set his hunting back and he was itching to get back to it.
He decided to visit with the local breeders to find the best duck hunting dog available.
As he talked with the first breeder he informed him that he needed a dog that:
1) Had big, clear eyes so as to see where the duck fell
2) Had big ears that could hear a duck land far away
3) Had nice big paws so it could swim with little effort
4) Had a large nose to sniff out the ones that fell in the brush
5) Had a tight "bung" hole so it wouldn't take on water and sink
The breeder brought out his best dog. Sam knew right away that this dog was wrong for him. It's eyes were just too small.
The next breeder also brought out his best dog, but those little ears just didn't cut it.
The third breeder brought out a dog that looked great! Big eyes, big ears, nice paws for swimming, a huge nose, but when Sam lifted up the dog's tail he said "Nope, this dogs bung hole is just too sloppy...it would take on water and sink".
The breeder reached down and gave two quick yanks on the dogs nether region at which time the bung hole snapped shut with an audible "click".
The breeder turned to Sam and said "Sorry...had him set for pheasant".
