Title: KTBH Feeder
Post by: BaB on December 16, 2010, 02:16:55 pm
I had started a post under "Comb", but after reading many post on what I wanted to do I changed my mind and tried to copy a couple other post on making a Kenyan Top Bar Hive Feeder. I used 1 inch cedar 3 3/4 inches wide and 17 1/4 long to fit my hive then I used the same material only 3 1/2 wide for the sides and bottom, I cut them at 22 1/2 miter to fit my hive, glued with Titty bond 3 and screwed all the boards together, Then I took Plexiglas and cut it to match my frame and one side I cut a slot 5 inches wide and 1/2 inch deep at the center top, after a couple tries I used the correct material, liquid nails, clear and glued the Plexi to the frame. I finished it off by melting some paraffin wax and pouring it inside turning the feeder in different directions so all the edges got covered and sealed. I took some of my bottom screen #8 wire and cut it so it would go to the bottom of the feeder and hang out the slot I cut this way the girls have a ladder to climb on. The picture on on my Photobucket -> http://s1090.photobucket.com/albums/i373/MRTMEA (http://s1090.photobucket.com/albums/i373/MRTMEA)
It will hold 1 gallon of sugar water

Very cool.
My only question would be... how do you clean it out between feeding times?

What type of wood did you use for that hive?   Kinda looks like cedar.  Looks good.

To quote BaB:
