Old equipment?
« on: February 06, 2014, 01:43:38 am »
Hi, I'm a newbie.  I was given several old wooden, but in good shape, bee boxes and such.  Assuming a competent mentor, is starting with old equipment an automatic handicap?  E.g., I have a book, "First Lessons in Beekeeping" (Dadant), boxes last used in the 1940's, etc.  My local farm store is sponsoring a class soon.  I'll know a bit more of what I have after that...  Comments?

Welcome to the forum, G.S.  Sounds as if you have a mentor, that's great.  Hopefully the bees that used to be in the hives had no disease.  If they didn't should be fine.  Nice that your farm store is sponsoring the class. There are lots of threads and videos here that can help also.  You may want to join your local bee club also.  It will help for you to update your profile with your location.  Good luck to you.
