Just wanted to introduce myself.  My husband and I have decided to put a hive up on our property here in the Santa Cruz Mountains but we're completely new at this so we've got a lot to learn.  We haven't installed the hive just yet - we thought we would do some studying first and then put the hive up next spring.  We've got several acres here and have always been quite careful not to use pesticides or herbicides anywhere.  As a result, we've got a great variety of birds and lots of wild bees visiting the property.  I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can from you all.

Welcome Jean. You have started at a good place to find all the 411 info. that you need to become a good beekeeper insted of a bee have-er. I applaud you for doing your research well before you jump into the fire.

Hello from Oakland. Do you have many beekeeping neighbors?  I'll bet you live in a wonderful location for honeybees and native bees.
