I just call them a queen catcher.  They are kinda like a chip bag clip.  Just not as strong and more like a scoop so the queen can be held inside of it with out damage to her.

Thats what I need, a swarm just above the ground like that last one. Nice and easy. I did not spot the queen though.

Hey JP

I looked and didn't find her in the first pics, but is she almost center? just up a tad and to the right just a bit? I have 2 hives one is a swarm caught 2 springs ago and the other is a nuc I purchased this year so I used the posted pic to practice finding the queen as I have never found mine since the get go. So thanks for posting your photos.
So, now I'm not using you behind your back!!
hope you didn't mind  ;)

That is where most of the activity is in the center. I think you are right. I think ??? I see her.

No swarm calls yet. Just waiting and have all equipment in the car ready to go. Swarms are not as prevalent as out where JP lives.

if you can't see the queen, look for the activity around her.  this is a good still pic of that behavior.l

wish my pics would come out so well!

The first one was about 3 lbs or so and the second, perhaps a little bigger. No where near 6 lbs though.

Irwin, I opened the pic using paint.net which has an assortment of nice tools to choose from and just burrowed a pencil from the list and circled where the queen is.

If you are not familiar with paint.net, its a free download. You can do all sorts of things there like resizing pics.

Annette, can you see the way the bees are circled around her?  when they are moving, it is more clear.  after you get a chance to see that behavior a couple of times it starts jumping out at you in a cutout, or in your own hives.  it's not always crystal clear, but you'll get the hang of it.  it's like playing "where's waldo" a bunch of time and all of a sudden you can find waldo without even knowing you were looking   :-D

JP, I bet you'd be a happy camper if the swarms were always so simple to get.  The pics were wonderful.  The woman in one of the pictures, that is your Sister-in-Law?  Seems I have seen her picture before.  Nice shots.  Have that wonderful and most awesome day, health, life. Cindi

Cindi, that nice lady is who called me for that second swarm. She lives in a town called Luling, approx 30 minutes from where I live. I e-mailed her the pictures, she was glad to see them.

Her response:  "I am so impressed... sharing these with everybody!!!  Happy that the bees were safe in their new home since that storm would have drowned some of them out in the open like that!!!  Thanks for taking care of them."
