STRANGE Hive Inspection Findings
« on: October 14, 2008, 10:33:28 pm »
Hello Everyone,

I know that the standard time to check on a colony is in the afternoon when most of the hive is out foraging.  The strange thing is, when I check my bees in the afternoon, I usually meet up with a cranky, cantankerous hive with lots of mad bees buzzing around.  What's even more strange is that when I check my bees in the early evening/dusk the bees are far more docile!  Yet the hives are full of a lot more returning foragers.  This seems most strange.  Can anyone think of a reason for these findings?

It's getting where the evenings are cooler and the bees are less active then.

It's about like mine. Right after the dew is dry in the morning or real late afternoon.
Seems as though the new bee orientation flights are greatest midafternoon til about 5 pm EST so there can be quite a ruckus around the hives.
