Heat shrink tamper proof seals
« on: July 09, 2011, 12:41:46 pm »
I have a location I feel the need for heat shrink tamper proof seals on my honey as a precaution. Can you shrink them with a hair dryer or is a heat gun required.

I know you can use boiling water but prefer not to have the hassle of the water.

I find a heat gun to be better then a hair dryer because it heats up to a higher temperature and thus less time is needed on the honey.  -Mike

I use the hair dryer.   Get it close to the seal and it shrinks just fine.   I seal all bottles now.  Did a few cases yesterday and this morning.

I know this might be to late to reply. But i suggest that if you have tight budget and can't afford to buy heat gun and fortunately, you have a hair dryer at your home. Just be practical, use the resources of what you have. Your own self is the one who controls the hair dryer, so you know when to stop when it is having too much heat for your honey.
Where did i go wrong i lost a friend =_=

I have a heat gun and will use it sometimes, but mainly use hair dryer at high temp and high blowing speed - does the job  in about 5 seconds (have to rotate the bottle).

heat gut works faster, but I also then need to use gloves as it gets quite hot.

I would prefer to get shrink wraps that are perforated, but local sellers only have non-perforated ones . . . would have to go online or something to get perforated ones (haven't checked with all beekeeping suppliers).

I just ordered from specialtybottle.com - haven't received shipment yet so I don't have a valid opinion of their product.
I believe that company also offered perforated bands.

PeeVee,

Which specific model number shrink band did you buy from specialty bottle?  They don't show perforations, but picture is the same no matter what model you look at, so that doesn't surprise.

I like the "Glass Bear" that they advertise.  Expensive, but I won't do plastic, so it is a specialty considerations.

tandemrx - The ID #'s are SB80x30 for 1# and SB110x25 for 2# classic glass. I don't do plastic either.
