the sun finally shined
« on: March 02, 2014, 08:34:28 pm »
Although it was only a high 15 today, it wasn't snowing.  Strange!!!!!  Been cold and snowing for 4 months.   The deer came out in numbers early this afternoon.   17 doe's and fawns playing in my back field.

I had some apples from this fall that were getting soft.
So I threw them out under some pine trees by the barn.
15 minutes later I returned to add some more to the pile.
Walked up on 22 deer having a feast on them already.
They just looked up and went back to eating.
I was shocked as it was the middle of the day.
It has been a rough winter for all of us up here.
Any idea when it will be over Dan?

they are saying one more week of crap them start to get better.   Not sure I believe anything they say.   I normally would trust the farmers almanac but they are predicting winter to begin in Oct this years.

I picked the right year to put in a pellet stove.   I'm hardly using any propane

Most folks around here buy their propane a year ahead. They are all glad that they did too!
I thought the pellet stoves were stinky?

I dont prebuy propane but instead paid 55.00 to lock in on a price through winter.  This year I locked in at 1.90 a gallon until the end of April.  What do you mean by stinky?   Ours costs about 5.25 a day to run.  Thats about 60#s of pellets.  I have a 3900 sq ft house with 5 bedrooms.  It keeps my whole house at about 68 - 70.  The only time the furnace has run since I installed it is in the morning when my wife has it ramp up just before she gets out of bed.

It was just hear say from someone who's father has a pellet stove.
Sounds like it's saving your bacon this winter already.

We used to literally have herds of deer gather around our logging site in the winter and early spring to feed on the tree tops around here.  Now all we get is an occasional spooked deer looking over its back.  But there sure are a lot of "wild dogs" and mountain lions around.  Dang it!  Oh well I wonder what wolf taste like?
