Had a nuc get run over by SHBs. The smell from the frames was very bad. Is that normal?

The collapses I have had do have a foul odor (fermenting honey and rotting comb). Usually associated with a lot of slime.

Same here, the fermentaion is the dead give away.

Unfortunately, I have seen shb damage first hand as well, usually in a failing hive to begin with, perhaps one that swarmed and were strong before the swarm with lots of comb, but now that numbers are lacking, the shb move in and start taking over, in the brood comb. The smell is foul, of rot.
