Question about newly hived cutout colony
« on: July 06, 2010, 11:26:25 pm »
Last weeks cutout went well. I established them into a topbar hive and left them alone for a week. Today I looked it over, and found that most of the brood had emerged, there was some capped brood, and a little bit of older uncapped brood. I didn't see any eggs, though. I did find the queen, and she looked good; active and fat! Question- does the queen stop laying for a while as she adjusts to the new hive? If so, how long does it normally take before she starts laying again?

I would be too alarmed if the queen took a break from laying for a few days.  The best news is that you found her, she's fat and in good shape.  Be grateful and wait a few more days.

Congratulations on the great cutout.
