Robbing looked like take over?
« on: September 15, 2013, 09:07:26 pm »
One of my hives had maybe 400 bees on the outside today, thought they were swarming. Got up close and half of them were fanning like the when they say Q is here. I did look for a Q in the group and thats when I saw fighting. They were trying to get under the top cover. I have robbing screens on and I think that helped but a little fighting was going on at the robbing screen so I closed up even that entrance for today, maybe tomorrow too?

Do you think the robbing screen fooled them? I know I left some of the bees that belong in that hive out side and some died but I did not know what else to do. Any ideas on what went on?

When we install robber screens it is after all bees are done flying for the day.
It's usually after dark or before light in the morning.
It still takes a few days for them to get used to it.
