I've got a few hives where small black ants are taking up residence in and around the inside cover, especially in the joinery spaces. I've read that you can use ant traps to get rid of them, and I purchased some Hot Shot ant traps. It says they are good for sugar and grease feeding ants, so it should work.
The holes in the traps look large enough for a bee to enter as well. I'm wondering if it's safe to put these between the inner and outer covers? Putting things outside the hive may prevent new ant colonies coming in, but I need to get rid of those already in residence.
Does anyone use a particular brand of trap they can suggest?
