Propolis Tea
« on: November 02, 2009, 02:19:49 pm »
Does anyone have a recipe for Propolis Tea? :)

Edited to add the following.

Trying to find a "Propolis Tea" to treat a throat infection. Its a small lesion caused by an antibiotic resistant staff infection" that has been has been treated unsuccessfully by a dozen different Doctors over the past five years.  Hope it will respond to the "Propolis Tea" or propolis tincture or ingestion of straight propolis and honey.  The individual suffering with this ailment is at her wits end and I suggested treating with propolis.  She loves teas of all kinds. And hoped to find one made with propolis.

Any help would be greatly apreciated. :)

This is what I used......
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~reute001/htm-files/Propolis%20extract.html

We used everclear and mixed it 50/50 with water and put it in a mason jar in the cabnet for 6-8 weeks.  Then we will put into smaller 1 oz jars with droppers.  Whamo you have christmas gifts for all.

I copied that page, so thanks. I have wanted to make use of the propolis for a long time now.

So what is everclear??  And the 50/50 is grain alcohol and water??

Yes 50/50 is grain and water but you wouldnt need to mix if you use 100 proof vodka.  I like everclear better I dont like the smell of vodka :-X

I have to laugh out lout at myself. I saw this method mentioned in one of the books I read before and forgot about it. I scraped some propolis from my feeders when I cleaned them up for the year. I made some tea one evening and put some honey in of coarse and some propolis and TRIED to dissolve it in the hot liquid. It mostly broke down but what did not got on my teeth and I was supprized as to how much kick the taste was. It was as though you put some sort of hot spice in it. I looked like a dog or cat that just had peanut butter that kept licking to get it all.LOL!! :-D :-D Next time I will make the Tincture Concentrate.

That's what happened the first time I tried to make some.  Now I just boil a small biscuit size piece for ten minutes, skim off the wax and add the remaining liquid to Green Tea.  It really perks up the Green Tea.  Don't know how beneficial it might be, but it sure beats tossing it out. :)

Was hoping someone would have a sure fire recipe.

Maybe this is a thread sabotage, but does anybody have ideas for somehow processing propolis into flakes for use in soapmaking? Thanks!

The tea sounds intriguing :) Especially the solvent first used!
