Title: Greetings from Graaff-Reinet, South Africa
Post by: beyersgrt on October 31, 2011, 03:31:40 am
Hi to all
I've been dabbling in beekeeping for about 5 yrs. Partly because a friend asked me to make hives for him. I make my own hives, and frames and at the moment have three hives of which 2 are at home and one on a farm close by. The farm hive has had three tough drought seasons. The town hives are one new colony trapped this week end and one three year old hive. The older colony is a good producer, it was a cup full of bees caught in a fire hydrant.
Looking forward to learning from all y,all.

Beyers

Always fun to have to google where people are located!  So you’re pretty far south.  I wonder if you have Cape Bees in your area or does the mountain range around the Cape keep them isolated to that area?

I suspect we have Cape bees, our bees are not agro. Although they have the ability to sniff me out and bump me whenever i'm close to the hive. My wife will be between me and the hive.
