Title: My dog cornered a skunk....help
Post by: Riggs on May 17, 2012, 09:36:19 am
My little girls dog cornered a skunk last night. I can't even stand for him to be on the porch, let alone back in the house. I'm planning to try tomato juice this evening, anybody got any sure fire tips to get the stench out?

here is a solution we used to use at the vet office where I worked, the liquid soap we used was dawn dish soap
1 Qt 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 tsp. liquid soap

Thank you, that's the second time I've got the exact same recipe this morning.(I sent a few emails with the same question) Let's hope it works.

Also check with your local wildlife officers. Here they make their own spray to get rid of the Fragrance   :-X

A bath in tomato juice is helpful.  Gasoline will remove the smell and is often recommended by people but the danger of fire is not worth it let alone the effect of breathing the fumes.

Put the mixture in a spray bottle and soak the dog with it ...let it work for 5-10 minutes..then rinse and wash.
Used to have Akitas and it was the only way to get ride of the smell!

I agree, but my 3 year old would go with him. He actually tangled with it two nights in a row.

If your dog is sparring with skunks and you have small children,be sure the pets vaccinations are up to date!! And ditto on the recipe for the deodorizing recipe.

The peroxide, baking soda and dishsoap shampoo really works well. The reason tomato juice works because of the acid content.  White vinegar works better
