I found a wonderful SC measuring tool in the file section on the Organic Beekeepers Yahoo Groups list. Here's what it looks like:

You print it out and cover it with clear contact paper so it can last through the gunk of inspections.
I carried it in my pocket out to the hives and then I held it up to the rows of cells to measure the cell sizes. I didn't have time for much - my daughters and significant others and spouses were coming to dinner - but I did measure the cells on the side of a brood frame in my weak hive that has made it through the winter and has had no foundation given to them this year but SC starter strips - and the cells on the EDGE of the frame measured 5.2
I whooped - the girls are getting it!

But what did the cells in the middle of the brood nest measure is the question.

I know, I know, but I was so excited to have a moment to try it that I measured the closest place. When I go back in the hives in about 10 days, I'll check more specifically - but it was exciting anyway!

hey, that's just super, but i know it would work even better if you'd print it on a foil. have to get me one!

Ok, I give up, been all over this forum and the yahoo organic beekeepers forum and I can't find this ruler. Anybody know where it is?

It's in the "Files" section.

michael, I get "document not found" error. They must have moved it. I'll try more searching on yahoo

Ok, I found it, thanks for the help.

So Carriage House,
What did you do? Laminate the whole sheet, then cut it out?? I like how it looks. Sturdy.

Just trying to make up time from a misspent, though entertaining, youth. :-D

I cut apart each sheet, making sure to cut off one side of the scale and leaving enough on one end to punch a hole in and then laid them (2 sets) out on a single 8.5x11" lamination sheet (around 2.00 at Kinko's). I took care to run it through the laminator half a dozen times to make sure it sealed well around the edges and then cut each one out using the stores razor cutter (whatever its called...the trundle on the bar that slides back and forth that is not a traditional paper cutter).

Thanks for info.

Mine went through the washing machine in the pocket of my beesuit so when I reprint it, I'm going to copy Carriage House - great job of laminating - much better than the contact paper I used and will certainly last better, even if left in the beesuit pocket!!!
